daytrip to Pecs

choco-hippo

the bus ride to Pecs, Hungary was around three hours. on the way we visited two pieces of architecture designed by Imre Makovecz.

the first was the Roman Catholic Church in Paks.

the outdoor statues reminded of the Terry Gilliam's "Brazil"

like the inside of a wooden whale or something

pretty intense, especially considering i have not spent much time in churches. people in europe loves churches.

the postioning of the pulpit and the seating was very interesting. instead of everyone facing forward, looking at the back of each others heads, people are facing each other during bingo tournaments.

the second building visited was a community center in Kakasd

not quite as epic or overhwhelming as the church but pretty fantastic for a commnuity center

interior of steeple

huge performance space

neat bathroom markers

this is Pecs, Hungary

a "significant centre of early Christianity", Pecs is beatiful and has a crazy ammount of history. its also totally blown out by tourism.

this is the post office

we stumbled upon the Nador Gallery and this may have been one of the more exciting parts of Pecs for me.

the unconventional and temprary gallry occupies a part of an old, historic hotel in the center of the city that has not been able to be rennovated due to econmic recession. i think this is a really wonderful space for art to occupy, to inhabit and utilize a structure no longer in use, to redefine the purposes of that physical location and provide another interpretation of the architecture while also providing a sincere, public service. it is resourceful and it is practicle. take a chance to read their brief statment if you can.

feather chair

a big part of this visit was going to the Zsolnay Museum

they are famous for their "eosin glaze"

porcelain stove

stuff for rich people

this is another famous bingo hall. there is some crazy old stuff underneath it

old stuff.

these flowers were great.

alright, while more stuff to come later. trying to get caught up here. tell soon about the best day in keskemet thus far with bikes, an arboretum, water slides, a choir, and an imprpoteou hip-hop performance
